There is only 5 weeks left until Christmas and for many businesses, it is almost time to close their doors for the Christmas shut down period.

Is your business shutting down for the Christmas Holiday Season?

If so there are changes you need to be aware of.

Did you know there have been changes to the modern awards?

The Fair Work Commission has recently conducted a review of modern awards. As part of this review, 78 modern awards have now had their shut down clauses amended.

A shut down period is when a business temporarily closes the business, this generally occurs during the Christmas and New Year period.

What does this mean for my business?

Employers are now required to provide employees with 28 days' written notice of an intended shut down. This means if you intend to close your businesses doors on 23 December 2023, you will need to provide all employees with written notice of the shutdown, no later than 25 November 2023.

We understand it is a busy time of year and the deadline to send notices is fast approaching. If you require assistance in drafting notices for your employees, contact us and we can assist you.
