In 2026, Donovan Oates Hannaford will mark 80 years of serving the Hastings region. It is a milestone that speaks not just to longevity, but to a deep and enduring connection to the community we call home.
Since 1946, we have grown alongside Port Macquarie and the wider Hastings region. What began as a trusted local practice has evolved into a modern, full-service firm that supports individuals, families, businesses, and government bodies across an ever-changing legal landscape. Through it all, one thing has never wavered: our commitment to clear, reliable, and approachable legal advice.
Across eight decades, we have remained a steady presence in the region. From estate planning for local families to advising businesses on growth, succession, and dispute resolution, we have continually adapted to meet our clients' needs.
Today we work with a diverse client base, from small businesses to large private corporations, State-owned entities, and local government, across wills and estates, commercial law, property, planning and environment, and dispute resolution.
Yet through all of this growth, we have never lost sight of our regional roots. Being accessible, responsive, and genuinely invested in client outcomes is who we are.
Community involvement has always been central to who we are. For over 80 years, we have proudly supported local initiatives, sporting organisations, and charitable causes across the Hastings region.
We have a longstanding association with the Hastings Education Fund, supporting local students in their educational pursuits, and have been a committed sponsor of the Sunrise Hastings Sports Awards, celebrating local athletes and fostering community pride.
Our people have also played an active role in shaping the region. From leadership within Business Port Macquarie (formerly the Chamber of Commerce) and contributions to the Economic Development Steering Group, to involvement with the Edmund Barton Centre, we have consistently invested time and expertise in strengthening the local business community.
This spirit of service extends to our pro bono work, including a 12-year partnership with the Cancer Council and ongoing participation in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s Wills Week, supporting a service that is truly vital to regional NSW.
Some connections run especially deep. The late Norm Morgan, a respected member of our firm, made remarkable contributions to Surf Life Saving, and Norm Morgan Row at Flynns Beach stands as an enduring tribute to his legacy and ours.
As we celebrate our past, we are equally focused on the future, committed to nurturing the next generation of legal professionals through mentoring, practical training, and real opportunity.
Our Summer Clerkship program gives aspiring lawyers hands-on experience in a collaborative environment, often leading to long-term careers with us. We also support graduates completing their Practical Legal Training, offering real-world exposure that bridges study and practice.
This investment in people ensures the values built over 80 years carry forward, delivered by a team that understands both the law and the community we serve.
Eighty years is a significant achievement, but for us, it is above all a moment to reflect on what truly matters. Our success has always been built on trust, relationships, and a genuine commitment to our clients and our community.
As the Hastings region continues to grow and evolve, Donovan Oates Hannaford remains ready to meet new challenges, provide expert guidance, and support the people and businesses that drive the local economy.
A refreshing approach to legal advice. Eighty years in the making. Still going strong.
